As the lead pilot location, Kranj contributes its advanced smart city infrastructure and serves as a testing ground for the UrbanMind data space and applications. Building on the success of the Smart Mlaka project, Kranj provides key insights into implementing digital platforms and urban solutions. Its role includes facilitating traffic monitoring and optimization and promoting citizen engagement in smart city initiatives.
Kranj, the heart of Gorenjska, is an economic, cultural, and technological hub recognized for its pioneering advancements in smart city practices. Strategically positioned at the crossroads of major European routes, Kranj blends its rich heritage with a forward-looking commitment to sustainability and digital innovation. As a lead municipality in smart city initiatives, it exemplifies how urban areas can thrive through data-driven transformation.
Pula is a sustainable, resilient, and circular city that prioritizes community well-being and innovation. Its strategic framework is built around four key priorities: a people-centered city fostering knowledge, culture, inclusivity, and digitalization; green urbanization with a focus on zero waste, sustainable spaces, and climate resilience; clean and flexible transport promoting green mobility and optimized traffic flows; and a productive economy driven by transformation and modernized agriculture and fisheries.
Pula represents the secondary pilot location, offering a unique context with developing infrastructure. The city’s Smart City Development Plan (2023–2028) aligns with UrbanMind’s goals, focusing on integrating advanced technologies for sustainable urban management. Pula’s role involves validating the data space’s scalability and supporting efforts to optimize urban resource management and data collection.
